Luke 6:12–19

Read the passage.

Jesus had many disciples following Him, who listened to His teaching wherever He went. After a night spent in prayer, He chooses twelve men to be apostles, or messengers. These would be sent out to preach the good news of God’s kingdom to the towns and vilages, and be the backbone of Jesus’s ministry after He left.

Once Jesus and the apostles come down from the mountain, He preaches to all His disciples and the very large crowd that is following them. By this point, Jesus is famous not only among the Jewish provinces, but also in the Gentile areas of Tyre and Sidon, which are along the coast of the Mediterranean Sea. They want to hear Him speak and also be healed of their diseases.
